Arra Rovers 1 - Rearcross 'A' 1

Rearcross 'A' faced a tricky away league fixture last Sunday morning in Portroe against Arra Rovers and came away with a share of the spoils after a high drama finish, the home side made the better start and threatened after two minutes of play with a free kick that wasn't far away, Rearcross worked their way in to the game and a flowing move nearly produced the opener when Emmet Steed's first time effort flew over the bar on nine minutes. Arra Rovers took the lead in the 11th minute when Eddie Lawlor's pin point cross was met by Anthony Kennedy with the resulting headed effort rattling the roof of the net. Rearcross regrouped and a Derek O'Toole corner kick five minutes later skidded invitingly across the Arra goalmouth, Derek O'Toole then fired on target nine minutes before the break, however Mike Sheehy in the Arra goal was able to make the save.
Arra made a strong start to the second half and and Sean Sheehy had to be alert to tip the ball on to the crossbar four minutes in before a Nigel Ryan shot was inches wide of the Arra Rovers upright in the 58th minute. Rearcross got back on level terms when a clever passing movement involving Declan O'Toole and Nigel Ryan saw the ball break to PJ McLoughlin who kept his cool before sending a clinical finish to the far corner of the net. A high drama finish to the game saw a headed effort from Arra's Anthony Kennedy just wide of the target with eleven minutes to go and then the home side were awarded a penalty a minute later following an infringement inside the box, Sean Sheehy guessed correctly and got down superbly to parry Pat Powers penalty kick away to safety. It was tit for tat in the remaining minutes and both sets of defences defended stoutly to ensure the spoils were shared on this occasion.
