Sallypark 'B' 1 - Rearcross 'B' 3

Rearcross ended their recent losing streak with an encouraging 3-1 away victory over Sallypark 'B' last Sunday afternoon, Rearcross made the better start in the dismal weather conditions and took an early lead after 12 minutes when a long range effort from Sean Kennedy deceived the Sallypark keeper and found its way to the back of the net. The home side drew level ten minutes later when the visitors conceded a penalty which was emphatically converted by Dessie Fahy. Rearcross recovered well after this and restored their advantage on the half hour mark when a flowing passing move saw Joey Nolan put Davy Ryan Luke in the clear only for the midfielder to be upended as he was about to shoot, Liam Ryan duly dispatched the resulting penalty to the back of the net. Rearcross went further ahead eight minutes later when Sean Kennedy rose highest to power home a Liam Ryan corner. Sean Kennedy was denied his hat-trick five minutes before half time when his shot from outside the box hit the post.
The chances were evenly shared in an open second half, the home side had the majority of possession but struggled to break through a resolute Rearcross rearguard. Sallypark had their best chance to half the deficit when midway through the half they were awarded their second penalty of the game, however Ger Kennedy was more than equal to the task and maintained his teams two goal advantage with a fine save. Rearcross were unlucky not to grab a fourth on 70 minutes when a Thomas Kennedy free kick struck the crossbar with the keeper well beaten, the rebound eventually fell to Adrian Hurley however his shot was deflected out for a corner. Rearcross were denied a penalty with ten minutes remaining when Damien Mullins seemed to be fouled inside the penalty area after being played through by Thomas Kennedy, the appeals were unheard as the home side cleared the ball to safety. In the end it mattered little as Rearcross held on for a deserved and much needed victory.
