Rearcross 'A' 2 - Toomevara 2
Rearcross 'A' came from behind twice to earn a share of the spoils against Toomevara in this lively Premier Division league game played at Rearcross FC Grounds last Sunday morning, the visitors made the brighter start and went ahead after eight minutes of play when Rearcross failed to clear their lines as Terry Delaney took full advantage with a smashing effort from outside the box, Rearcross upped the ante after this and drew level six minutes later when James Gough was upended inside the box following a fine run, Kevin Mullins stepped up and planted the resulting penalty with aplomb to the back of the net.. JP O'Meara came close for the visitors midway through the half when his well struck effort finished in the side netting. Toomevara went ahead again on 31 minutes with a well taken penalty from Terry Delaney despite protestations from the home side. Toomevara made a strong finish to the half and a well timed tackle from Damien Mullins averted the danger two minutes before the break.
Rearcross were unlucky not to get back on par six minutes after the re-start when a through ball from Sean Mullins found Paul Murphy in space with the resulting lobbed effort pulling to the right of the upright. Robbie Ryan then came close for Toomevara with a long range effort that wasn't far away, this was followed by a Marthy Ryan free kick two minutes later which nestled in the side netting. Rearcross made a strong finish to the game and Paul Murphy's delivery from out on the left clipped the top of the Toomevara crossbar before John Norton pushed the ball out for a corner kick, Rearcross equalised from the resulting corner kick when Anthony Ryan's swirling delivery deceived the Toomevara rearguard before the ball finished inside the goal line. Rearcross were on top to the final whistle and Paul Murphy was dreadfully unlucky to see his snapshot pull inches wide of the upright in the 84th minute.
