Rearcross 'B' 1 - Borroway Rovers 1

Rearcross 'B' played their penultimate home league game of the season and their first game under lights last Friday night when they hosted Borroway Rovers and emerged with a share of the points on a one all scoreline. Chances were evenly shared in a lively opening half with both sides creating goal scoring opportunities. Borroway applied the pressure early on and Jim Caplis was relieved to see a shot from the edge of the box fly wide after it seemed destined for the top corner. Rearcross replied with a well struck shot from Anthony Ryan however his effort was straight at the keeper. Rearcross conceded the opening goal after 25 minutes when the home side was caught trying to play the ball out of defence and were punished when Shane Lanigan's strike from twelve yards out found its way to the back of the net. Rearcross responded immediately from the kick off when Liam Ryan worked his way into the penalty area and forced a superb save from the Borroway keeper. Rearcross got a deserved equaliser ten minutes before the break when good play from Liam Ryan on the left wing saw him find Joey Nolan on the edge of the penalty area. And when the keeper couldn’t hold onto his shot, Thomas Kennedy was on hand to blast the rebound home to leave the sides level at half time.
The opening chance of the second half fell to the home side when a good passing move put Michael O’Gorman in the clear and his shot went just over the crossbar. Borroway had an excellent chance to retake the lead when a long ball out of defence fell into the path of the inrushing attacker. Jim Caplis advanced to narrow the angle and the shot was dragged inches wide. The game grew scrappy after this and Rearcross had the best of the remaining clear cut chances. A superb cross field pass from Joey Nolan put Thomas Kennedy in the clear, however his effort to chip the keeper drifted agonisingly wide. Thomas Kennedy almost grabbed his second when, minutes from the end, he managed to find space in a crowded penalty area, however he shot straight at the keeper. And so, the sides finished all square, a fair result on the day.
