Nenagh AFC 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 0

Nenagh AFC 'A' clinched the Premier league Ttitle with this emphatic four nil win over Rearcross 'A' at a blustery Islandbawn on Saturday evening, Rearcross made a bright enough start and Davy O'Toole's effort wasn't far away after three minutes of play, however Nenagh signalled their intent on six minutes when Jim Caplis was forced to save a well struck Trevor Morrissey shot from the edge of the box, Nenagh were getting on top after this and another attack saw Eamon Devitt doing well to head away from the danger area minutes later. Trevor Morrissey then laid off to Michael Hogan with the resulting snap shot pulling to the left of the visitors upright. Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis who went on to give a man of the match display came to the rescue for the Rearcross in the 13th minute with a smashing body block following a goal mouth skirmish. Rearcross enjoyed spells of dominance after this and were robbed of the opener with fourteen minutes remaining in the half when Paul Murphy reacted well to get behind the Nenagh rearguard, however the follow up effort saw the ball roll agonisingly close to the goal line before Nenagh closed in to clear to safety. Martin Donnellan was only on the field three minutes for the home side when his headed effort from a swirling delivery finished in the side netting, Martin Donnellan had the ball in the Rearcross net on 39 minutes, however the effort was disallowed for a pushing infringement.
Rearcross had weathered the storm at the half time whistle or so it seemed, however the reprieve was short lived as Nenagh made a lightening start to the second half that produced a hat-trick of goals in an eleven minute spell, the first coming two minutes in to the half when Michael Hogan advanced on the left before squaring a dangerous ball that saw a luckless Eamon Devitt knock the ball to the back of the net. Martin Donnellan followed up five minutes later with a twenty yard volley that rattled the Rearcross crossbar. Nenagh added a second in the 56th minute when Michael O'Gorman converted from the penalty spot after the same player was adjudged to have been pushed in the penalty area. Further woe was to follow for the visitors when Paul Cullen advanced on the left before sending a low drive whistling past a faultless Jim Caplis. Rearcross didn't throw in the towel after this and kept battling despite the odds and a Nigel Ryan shot was gathered by Nenagh's Robbie Ryan in the 64th minute. Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis was very much to the fore and made a point blank save from Darren O'Gorman on 69 minutes, Michael Hogan then tested the Rearcross custodian three minutes later with another top drawer save denying the home side, it was target practice for the League champions elect at this stage and Jim Caplis again thwarted Darren O'Gorman a minute later. The visitor's closest opportunity of the second half came with 13 minutes remaining when Sean Mullins was robbed after getting on the end of a Kevin Mullins free kick with the resulting headed effort just inches away from the Nenagh target. Nenagh copper fastened the League title in the 79th minute when Michael Hogan was upended in the box before Gary McCormack stepped up to slot the ball to the corner of the net. Jim Caplis was again in the action with five minutes to go after reacting superbly to knock the ball on to the crossbar to deny the home side once again. Rearcross missing some regulars will have to regroup after this defeat, however Nenagh were rampant on the day and were full value for a comprehensive victory that ensured a first Premier League title for the Club since the 2001/2002 season.
