Rearcross 'A' and Newport 'A' clashed in this Tournament quarter final at Rearcross FC Grounds and the host Club had to rely on a penalty shootout to book a semi-final placing. Rearcross enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and Eamon Gleeson did well to get behind the Newport rearguard four minutes in, however Eoin Larkin in the Newport goal read the situation well and averted the danger. Newport got on top after this and went ahead when Kieran O'Sullivan broke through the center and poked to the net from close range. The visitors dominated after this and were unlucky not to increase their lead with good efforts from Barry Doyle and Danny Healy.
Rearcross upped the ante in the second half and met stiff resistance from a well organised Newport side that defended stoutly for long spells. Rearcross were robbed of an equaliser five minutes from the end when clever play from Paul Murphy on the right saw the ball break to Seamus Feehan was unlucky to see his well struck shot shave the woodwork. Rearcross piled on the pressure after this and got the breakthrough on the stroke of full time when Paul Murphy's free kick from outside the box finished in the corner of the net. Rearcross came through on a 5-3 score line from the penalty shootout with Paul Murphy, Nigel Ryan, Simon Kennedy, Anthony Ryan and Sean Mullins on the mark for the winners while Brian O'Sullivan, Kieran O'Sullivan and Barry Doyle converted for Newport.
