Rearcross 'B' 2 - Borroway Rovers 2

Rearcross B played host to Borroway Rovers last Wednesday evening in their 3rd league game of the season and had to come from behind to earn a share of the spoils. As the cliché goes, this was literally a game of two halves as the visitors were completely dominant in the 1st half. They took the lead after 10 minutes when a dangerous cross deep into the Rearcross penalty area was struck home at the bask post. Rearcross were under fierce pressure at this stage and conceded a second 15 minutes later as the Borroway striker waltzed through the Rearcross defence before rounding Jim Caplis and finishing to the empty net. Rearcross were fortunate not to go further behind on the half hour mark as Jim Caplis had to go at full stretch to tip a shot from 30 yards onto crossbar. The home side settled somewhat after this and their first chance of the game fell to PJ McLoughlin as he was played in behind the Borroway defence but his effort to chip the keeper was easily saved.  Michael O’Gorman was next up to trouble the Borroway goal however his first time volley from a corner kick was straight at the keeper.
Rearcross were a much improved side in the 2nd half as they started to string good passing moves together. They halved the deficit on the hour mark when good build up play from PJ McLoughlin and Emmet Steed saw Liam Ryan rise highest to force the ball home. After this it was only a matter of time before Rearcross got the equaliser. And indeed they did, when on 75 minutes another fine flowing move saw Matthew Ryan (L) pick out the unmarked Liam Ryan. He kept his composure to blast the ball past the Borroway keeper. The game was there for the taking after this and both sides had opportunities to snatch all 3 points. The home side breathed a sigh of relief as a Borroway shot from the edge of the box flew past Jim Caplis only to rebound off the post. Tommy Ryan (S) did well to turn his marker however the defender recovered to take the ball off his toe as he was about to pull the trigger. And so the sides were all square as the final whistle went, a fair result on the day.
