Rearcross 'B' 4 - Sallypark 'B' 2

Rearcross B secured their first home victory of the season with a 4 - 2 win over bottom side Sallypark B in Rearcross last Sunday afternoon. The home side coped well against a strong breeze in the opening half and dominated the early exchanges. They took the lead after 15th minutes when an excellent pass from Emmet Steed played Thomas Kennedy in behind the Sallypark defence and the striker made no mistake to find the top corner and put Rearcross into the lead. The second goal followed on the half hour mark and was almost a copy of the first. Emmet Steed played in Thomas Kennedy once more and this time he turned provider as he squared the ball to an unmarked Liam Ryan and finished to the net from six yards. Sallypark enjoyed a good spell of possession after this and were unfortunate not to register a score when the crossbar denied them 5 minutes before the break. Rearcross responded with a Thomas Kennedy effort that glanced past the post.
The 2nd half was an open and lively affair as both sides went in search of the important 3rd goal. It came to Rearcross on the hour mark when an Anthony Ryan free kick was nodded onto the penalty spot and Thomas Kennedy rose highest to put Rearcross 3 ahead. Further chances followed with Tommy Ryan pulling a shot inches wide while a Liam Ryan shot clipped the top of the crossbar. To their credit Sallypark didn’t give up and were rewarded when Rearcross conceded an own goal. Rearcross took the game to the visitors once more and Brian Sheehy was unlucky to see his first time effort go the wrong side of the crossbar. Thomas Kennedy tested the keeper once more before a flowing move started by Anthony Ryan on the edge of the own box ended up with Robert Harrington finding Liam Ryan in the box and the winger made no mistake to grab his 14th of the season. Rearcross conceded a 2nd with 15 minutes remaining as a shot from 20 yards found its way to the corner of the net. The home side kept their composure as Sallypark threw everything they had at Rearcross. As it happened it was Rearcross who came closest late on when a Brian Sheehy struck the foot of the Sallypark post and deflected wide. The final whistle went moments later and Rearcross left the pitch happy with the performance and the result.
