Rearcross 'B' 1 - Ardcroney 0
Rearcross B played host to Ardcroney last Sunday morning and claimed all three points after a hard fought victory. The home side got off to the best possible start when they opened the scoring inside the first minute. A good passing move saw Thomas Kennedy played into the left corner and his cross found Emmet Steed at the back post. The striker made no mistake from 10 yards out to put Rearcross ahead. The game settled after this into a very even and entertaining first half with both sides creating their fair share of chances. The visitors were particularly dangerous from set pieces and were unlucky not to draw level from a corner after 15 minutes when they struck the top of the cross bar. Rearcross responded well when an excellent passing move started deep in his own half by Robert Harrington saw the ball worked into the Ardcroney penalty area where Thomas Kennedy got a shot in only to see it drift wide. They followed this up with a shot from Davy Ryan (Luke) which was inches over the crossbar. Another Thomas Kennedy effort was saved before a superb Larry McLoughlin strike from 30 yards seemed destined for the top corner. However the Ardcroney keeper managed to stretch a hand to tip the shot outside the post.
The visitors dominated the second half as they threw everything they had at the home side and Rearcross were forced to defend in numbers throughout. To their credit, Rearcross coped fairly well with this onslaught and mostly limited Ardcroney to half chances. Jim Caplis dealt with any long range shots while Eamonn Wade and Anthony Ryan were prominent in the centre of defence. Ardcroney came closest on the 70th minute with a well struck shot from the edge of the area however the woodwork denied them once more and the rebound was cleared to safety. The best chance of the half for Rearcross saw Joey Nolan get on the end of Thomas Kennedy cross however he dragged his shot wide of the upright. In the end the home side held out and the early goal proved enough to secure the victory. Acknowledgement and thanks to the Ardcroney Club for agreeing to change the kick of time.
