Rearcross Youths 4 - Templetouhy 2

Rearcross Youths claimed victory over Templetouhy in emphatic style on a 4-2 score line in this Second Division Youths game played at a chilly Rearcross FC Grounds last Saturday afternoon. The visitors made the better start and were camped in Rearcross territory early on forcing threee successive frees which were well defended by the home side. Rearcross got to grips with the game after this and Greg Kennedy found Tommy Kennedy in space with the resulting effort not far off the mark on ten minutes. Rearcross keeper Bobby Carroll raced off his line seconds later to make a timely clearance. The Templetouhy keeper was called in to action on the fifteen minute mark and had to be alert to gather a well struck free from Mark Hogan. Rearcross were on top at this stage and Greg Kennedy fired over on 23 minutes, Shane Lenihan broke through the centre a minute later only for Liam Ryan in the Templetouhy goals to make a fine block. Templetouhy also had their moments and were thwarted with a well timed tackle from Cormac Nolan. The Templetouhy net minder got down well to hold a rasping free kick from Mark Hogan on the half hour mark. The woodwork then denied Rearcross with 13 minutes remaining in the half when Michael O'Gorman squared to Tommy Kennedy who was very unlucky to see his effort come back off the post. Templetouhy took the lead against the run of play with four minutes remaining in the half when Tom Meade ran on to a through ball and slipped the ball to the corner of the net. Rearcross made a rapid recovery and back in the frame a minute later when a long delivery from Mark Hogan saw the ball break to Andrew Ryan who booted to the net from close range.
Rearcross should have been buoyed by this equaliser, however it was the visitors that made the early running in the second half and restored their lead after three minutes of play when Eugene Davy's looping effort from outside the box nestled in the corner of the net. A solo run from Andrew Ryan through the middle looked promising minutes later, however the Templetouhy rearguard closed in to snuff out the danger. Rearcross kept battling and Tommy Kennedy did well to turn his marker in 59th minute, however the keeper got down to gather. Andrew Ryan's first time volley was on target two minutes later, however the visiting custodian was well positioned to save. Michael O'Gorman grabbed a deserved equaliser for the home side with 13 minutes remaining after racing through on the left before sending a low pile driver to the corner of the net. The initiative was now with home side and Rearcross edged in front a minute later when a smashing run from Shane Lenihan that started in the middle of the field saw the ball crossed from the right to Brendan Shanahan who made no mistake from close range. Rearcross made it 4-2 in the 83rd minute when Shane Lenihan latched on to Andrew Ryan's corner kick on the edge of the six yard box to copper fasten the win for a Rearcross side that were deserving winners on the day.
