Ardcroney 1 - Rearcross 'B' 0

Rearcross B made the trip to Ardcroney last Good Friday but returned home disappointed and empty handed on the wrong end of a 1 – 0 score line. Chances were few and fair between for both sides in a scrappy opening half. Rearcross were lively early on and the first real chance of the game fell to Matthew Ryan (L) as he got on the end of a Liam Ryan cross. However the captains front post effort went over the crossbar. Liam Ryan followed this up with a couple of long range efforts but the Ardcroney custodian dealt with them without too much trouble. In response, Jim Caplis had to prove his worth once more as he did well to tip a powerful header over his crossbar. Ardcroney were on top at this stage, forcing a number of corners in succession. This pressure eventually told 5 minutes before the interval when a long throw into the Rearcross penalty area was half cleared and the follow up effort from 20 yards was placed in the top corner by Gary Mitchell leaving Jim Caplis with no chance. Rearcross had the majority of possession throughout the 2nd half as they went in search of an equaliser but in truth, they struggled to break down a stubborn Ardcroney defence. Matthew Ryan (L) again came closest after he was played in behind the defence only to be denied by the Ardcroney keeper from close range. The Rearcross cause was further aided when the home side were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages. However, the hosts held out resolutely and indeed would have went further ahead late on when Jim Caplis and Matthew Ryan (L) were called upon to make vital clearances late on after Rearcross were caught on the break. In the end, Ardcroney had done enough to earn all 3 points and in doing so, put an end to Rearcross faint promotion aspirations.
