Sallypark 'B' 1 - Rearcross 'B' 3

Rearcross B made the journey to Sallypark B last Sunday morning and secured all 3 points with a hard fought 3-1 victory. After a sluggish start Rearcross were on top for much of the 1st half and created several good scoring opportunities. Their best chance after this fell to Adrian Hurley midway through the half when he was played in the clear however his shot was straight at the keeper. After this Tommy Ryan (L) had a shot go just over the top corner. Adrian Hurley had another chance when a neat pass from Robert Harrington found the striker in the Sallypark penalty area. He did well to turn his marker but again the keeper was well positioned to divert the danger. Liam Ryan got in on the action soon after however his shot from 20 yards dragged wide. The Garavane man came close once more when Matthew Ryan (L) picked him out with a cross from the right wing however, his header was just over the bar. Somewhat inevitably, Rearcross were made to rue these missed chances when, 5 minutes before the interval, the Sallypark striker was played in behind the flat footed Rearcross defence and he kept his composure to slot the ball past the advancing Jim Caplis and in to the bottom corner.
Rearcross came out full of purpose after the break and drew level almost immediately.  A neat passing move down the right wing saw Adrian Hurley play Joey Nolan into the Sallypark penalty area where he was unceremoniously upended. Liam Ryan stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty. Liam was denied what would hacve been a superb 2nd goal moments later when he robbed the ball from the restart, ghosted past 2 defenders before unleashing a powerful shot only to denied by the upright. He was not to be denied however and grabbed scored his second. Greg Kennedy did well to win the ball on the left wing. Adrian Hurley made the run to the corner and his cross eventually fell to the unmarked Liam Ryan at the back post who made no mistake to his side in front. Liam should have sealed his hat trick after he was played in by Tommy Ryan (L) however he could not keep his shot on target. Sallypark almost squared the game once more when a long range free kick deceived everyone to rebound off the crossbar and away to safety. Rearcross responded to this scare by scoring a third. A cross from the right wing found Greg Kennedy at the back post. The winger kept his cool to beat his marker and place the ball into the corner to secure the victory. The winger was in the action once more when he was in the right place at the right time to clear a volley off the line from a Sallypark corner. The final whistle went moments later to give Rearcross their 5th victory in 6 games.
