Moneygall 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 4

Rearcross 'A' travelled to Moneygall for this Premier Division Shield encounter and made a flying start to the new season with a 4-1 result against the home side. Rearcross opted for a 4-3-3 formation and made a positive start to the game but failed to breakdown a dogmatic Moneygall rearguard. The home were also having their moments, however the opening goal came somewhat against the run of play when Rearcross were caught flat footed at the back and conceded a somewhat easy goal. Indeed, Rearcross were fortunate not to be two nil in arrears at the half time whistle when Moneygall missed from the spot.

Rearcross were a different team in the second half following a stiff lecture from new man in charge and former Rearcross player Jody Shanahan. James Gough bagged an equaliser for Rearcross after latching on to a cross from the boot of Liam O'Toole. An attacking Shane Lenihan was causing problems for Moneygall on the flanks and it was from a Shane Lenihan cross that Rearcross took the lead when Liam Ryan rattled the net with a smashing volley. The home side battled to get back in to the game, however the Rearcross defence stood firm. Liam O'Toole's runs down the right continued and a pass to Matthew Ryan Luke found James Gough, the reaction was swift as Gough prodded home his second of the day to put Rearcross 3-1 ahead. The home side weren't giving up without a battle and it was to take some fine goal keeping from Sean Sheehy to keep the score line intact. The result was put beyond doubt ten minutes from time when a long ball down the middle saw Liam Ryan released James Gough who made no mistake to round off an impressive hat-trick. Rearcross will play Borrisoleigh in the semi-final of the Shield on Tuesday evening.
