Rearcross 'B' 0 - Kilcommon 'A' 1

Rearcross B made played host to local rivals Kilcommon A in their first home game of the 2009/2010 season and suffered a disappointing 0-1 defeat at the hands of their neighbours.  The opening half was played in wet and blustery conditions and was dominated by the respective defences. The first real chance of the game fell to the home team after 20 minutes. Joey Nolan floated a free kick into the penalty area which fell to Paul Hogan. His effort rebounded to an off balance PJ McLoughlin whose first time went agonisingly over the cross bar. However, in all honesty, Rearcross struggled to break down the Kilcommon rearguard and create any clear cut chances. The same could also be said for their opposition as the Rearcross defence were on top. Kilcommon had strong appeals for a penalty 10 minutes before the break after a period of sustained pressure but to the hosts relief, these shouts were dismissed and the sides remained all square at the break.

The deadlock was broken 15 minutes into the 2nd half. Rearcross were in the midst of mounting an attack when a misplaced pass was intercepted by Liam Berkery. With the defence caught out of position, the Ballinahinch man kept his composure to round the last defender before placing the ball past the helpless Jim Caplis and give his side a decisive advantage. Rearcross chased the game after this setback, however they lacked the final ball to unlock a determined Kilcommon defence and never truly threaten Paudie Ryan in the Kilcommon goal.  In fact, Jim Caplis was the busier of the 2 keepers as he was called upon to make a number of fine saves as Kilcommon counter attacked at every opportunity. But in the end, Liam Berkery’s goal proved the difference and Rearcross suffered their 2nd league defeat in a row in what is a very disappointing start to their season.
