Rearcross 'B' 0 - Blackcastle 'B' 3

Rearcross B played host to Blackcastle B in the 2^nd Division last Monday night and suffered a very disappointing 3-0 defeat at the hands of their Templemore opponents.  Rearcross were the better side starting off and created a number of good scoring chances. The first fell to Shane Reynolds when he got on the end of a Paul Murphy corner kick. However, the centre back blazed his shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy. The next chance came as a long ball out of defence played Michael O’Gorman in behind the visitors however, he was forced wide and his effort was cleared. The home side were well on top at this stage and Joey Nolan was the next to trouble the Blackcastle goal. A precise Liam Nolan cross found his brother in space at the edge of the box however, the strikers first time effort was wide of the upright. Inevitably, Rearcross were made to rue these missed chances when they conceded the opener 10 minutes before the break. Blackcastle found their way past the Rearcross defence and while Jim Caplis did well to force them wide, the Blackcastle striker made light of the narrow angle to give his side the lead. And indeed, Rearcross were lucky not to be further behind at the break as Jim Caplis did well to turn away a powerful shot from the edge of the area.
The next goal was crucial at this point and the start of the 2^nd half was a tight affair. Rearcross fell further behind after 60 minutes when Blackcastle won the ball out wide and a fine cross found the winger in space at the edge of the area. He did not need a second invitation and blasted the ball to the back of the net. Rearcross pushed forward in search of a consolation but were punished once more as they were caught with a counter attack as Cathal Leahy beat the offside trap and Jim Caplis was left with no chance. The game was effectively over after this and both sides played out the remainder without troubling either defence.
