Borroway Rovers 4 - Rearcross 'B' 0

Rearcross B made the trip to Thurles last Sunday morning to play Borroway Rovers in the 2nd Division and returned home well beaten on a 4-0 scoreline. Borroway came out of the traps quickest and dominated the early play and chances. They took the lead after 10 minutes when a period of good build up play lead to a shot from the edge of the area which nestled in the bottom corner of the net. The home side almost went further ahead when a corner kick caused consternation in the visitors penalty area and Rearcross were relieved as a goalbound effort was deflected over the bar by a Borroway midfielder. Rearcross responded with their own period of pressure and created half chances through PJ McLoughlin and Joey Nolan however, neither troubled the Borroway keeper. The hosts doubled their advantage with a quick counter attack after 20 minutes as the sped of the Borroway attack caught the Rearcross defence cold and a fine shot from 15 yards found the top corner leaving Jim Caplis with no chance. Rearcross fell 3-0 down on the half hour mark when a shot from a corner kick took a cruel deflection to fly in past Jim Caplis in the Rearcross goal.
The game was effectively over at half time and both sides went through the motions in the 2nd half. Rearcross conceded a penalty midway through the half when the Borroway striker was upended in the Rearcross penalty area. However, Jim Caplis got down smartly to his left corner to tip the penalty around the post. The home side grabbed a fourth 15 minutes from time as Borroway latched on to a ball over the top of the Rearcross defence to beat Jim Caplis and add extra gloss to the scoreboard. Rearcross almost pulled back an undeserved consolation goal in the dying minutes when a Joey Nolan effort clipped the top of the crossbar. One point from a possible 15, only 2 goals in 5 games with 11 conceded sees Rearcross planted to the bottom of the table.
