Nenagh Celtic 'A' 1 - Rearcross 0

Rearcross travelled to Nenagh VEC last Sunday morning for this Premier Division game against Nenagh Celtic 'A' and were somewhat unlucky in the end not to take something from this game after a Jimmy Hynes finish coming on 39 minutes was to prove the difference on the day. Rearcross made the first attack and an Andy Murphy effort inside the first minute was on target however Aidan Herhily was able to gather with ease. Derek O'Toole picked out Liam Ryan out on the right flank in the 6th minute who in turn swung in the delivery, however the ball flew across the goal mouth and away from the danger area. The visitors were well up for this highly competitive encounter and Paul Murphy was unlucky to get booked three minutes later. Nenagh Celtic nearly opened their account in the 14th minute when Darren Mitchell's menancing delivery from the right saw Sean Sheehy backpeddling before knocking the ball on to the cross bar. Nenagh Celtic were enjoying the better of the exchanges at this stage and Rearcoss were let off the hook when Stevie Ryan's low effort stuck the base of the far upright midway through the half. Nenagh Celtic did have the ball in the net on 25 minutes, however play was called back for an off side infringement. Celtic's Danny Ryan was a threat on right flank and a darting run on the half hour mark saw the Nenagh Celtic number 6 forcing a superb save from Sean Sheehy with the Rearcross rearguard following up to avert the danger. Liam Ryan fired on target for Rearcross minutes later, however the Nenagh Celtic net minder was well positioned to gather. Sean Sheehy was in the action again with a fine reflex save nine minutes before the break. Rearcross went behind when a long delivery through the middle saw Rearcross slow to react, Jimmy Hynes took full advantage with a clinical touch that saw Sean Sheehy stranded.
Rearcross were the better team in the second half and signalled their intent three minutes in when John Ryan Luke swivelled and let fly with the well struck effort lifting over the crossbar. Paul Murphy put in a fine tackle to avert a threatening Nenagh attack minutes later. Mark Walsh came close for Nenagh Celtic in the 63rd minute, however Tommy Ryan Luke did well to avert the danger at the expense of a corner. Sean Mullins came close for Rearcross midway through the half and then Andy Murphy had a chance, however the ball didn't fall too kindly. Rearcross made a strong finish to the tie, Andy Murphy let fly with a left legged effort with fourteen minutes to go, however the ball flew away from target. Derek O'Toole made space to pull the trigger in the 85th minute and was luckless to see his effort pull away from the corner of the woodwork and then in the final action of the game, James Gough's effort was on target, however the Aidan Herhily was positioned to make the save. Rearcross face an uphill battle at this stage but will take the postitives from this gutsy performance despite coming out second best on the day.
