Borrisoleigh 4 -Rearcross 2

Rearcross bowed out of the Tipperary Cup following this 4-2 defeat away to Borrisoleigh last Saturday afternoon. The opening exchanges were evenly shared, however it was the home side that went ahead on ten minutes when Noel Kent flicked the ball to the net from close range. Rearcross made a quick recovery and were back on level terms within a minute when Andy Murphy broke through the centre and kept his compusure before slotting the ball home from inside the eighteen yard box. Rearcross enjoyed a period of dominance after this and a flowing move on the left flank which was initiated by a Diarmuid Sheehy throw saw Andy Murphy swing in the cross, Declan O'Toole made headed contact and was luckless to see his effort deflected out for a corner kick. Borrisoleigh went back in front in the 19th minute when Noel Kent was given too much space and took full advantage with a well taken goal. Rearcross upped the ante again and were level again four minutes later when Robert Harrington combined with Andy Murphy to release Declan O'Toole who slipped the ball under an advancing Borrisoleigh custodian. Borrisoleigh went ahead for the third time nine minutes before the break when a corner kick was scrambled to the net by Liam Tynan with claims for a pushing infringement going unheard. Seam Mullins came to the rescue for Rearcross four minutes later with a point blank save from the boot of Noel Kent. The Rearcross keeper was in the action again two minutes before the half time whistle to deny Noel Kent for a second time. Rearcross were unlucky not to snatch an equaliser in the stroke of half time when Tommy Ryan Luke got on the end of Liam Ryan's corner kick with the headed effort not far away. Rearcross made a promising start to the second half and Andy Murphy linked up with Paul Murphy who fired just wide shortly after the restart and then Liam Ryan's shot wasn't far away minutes later. Sean Mullins produced the save of the game on 66 minutes after stretching full length to turn the ball around the post. The home side went 4-2 ahead with fifteen minutes remaining following a cracking Noel Kent free kick effort from outside the area that went straight to the top corner. Rearcross made a strong finish to the game and came close with efforts from Andy Murphy and Declan O'Toole, however Borrisoleigh had done enough on the day to progress to the next round.
