Ardcroney 'B' 1- Rearcross 'B' 1

On Sunday last, these two teams met on the opening day of the season in the Third Division Shield. Both teams would be looking at the Shield as a stepping stone for success this season. It was the away side who started off better as Kieran Devitt crossed in a ball only for Eamon Devitt to barely put it over the bar. Rearcross were well on top in the early stage of the game when Joey Nolan also came close to scoring a well rounded effort only for Ardcroney's keeper to save it. In the middle of the park, Rearcross was doing well as Matthew Ryan Luke and Liam Nolan(B) were running the show as well as the younger players Sean Hickey and Colm Nolan. On the 35th minute Joey Nolan was put through by Eamon Devitt and finished with style. As Rearcross went in at half time, they were unlucky not to be further ahead. When the teams came out in the second half it was more of an even contest. Rea however did manage to get a penalty when Eamon Wade did well to control the ball inside the box but was pushed aside. Joey Nolan took the penalty and was unfortunate not to score. Rearcross made beneficial changes in the second half when Kieran Devitt and Colm Nolan were tiring and brought off for Robert Harrington and Greg Kennedy. However Ardcroney possibly had two real chances in the second half and they took them. Rearrcross went a man down with minutes remaining and missed chances cost the away side on the day. Good performances by Simon Kennedy, Sean Hickey and Eamon Devitt.
