Rearcross 'A' 1 - Nenagh Cetlic 'A' 5

Rearcross started off their 10/11 league campaign with a tough opening assignment against Nenagh Celtic last Sunday afternoon. The opening exchanges were even with both teams trying to play good flowing football. Davy O’Toole was unlucky not to put the home side ahead after 15 minutes when he caught the Nenagh defence in possession however, his attempted chip was easily gathered by the Nenagh keeper. And it was from this turnover of possession that Nenagh got the opener. A fine passing move cut open the Rearcross rearguard and Jimmy Hynes was clinical with his finish from inside the penalty area. Rearcross fell further behind shortly after this when Jimmy Hynes finished superbly from a tight angle. Rearcross actually got on top after this and had Nenagh under pressure for the remainder of the half. However, despite creating a number of chances, they failed to cause the Nenagh custodian too much hassle. Derek O’Toole pulled a goal back for the hosts when he rose highest to head home a Liam Ryan corner.

The next goal was crucial at this stage and it came to Nenagh when Rearcross struggled to clear their lines before the ball eventually fell to Padraig O'Meara who blasted home to restore his sides 2 goal cushion. And indeed this advantage was extended to 3, when an attacking Rearcross were caught on the break and a surplus of Nenagh attackers were on hand to finish the move with Jimmy Hynes taking advantage to complete his hat-trick. Rearcross were awarded a penalty midway into the 2nd half when good interplay between David O’Toole and Liam Ryan saw the striker upended in the penalty area. However, the Nenagh keeper made a comfortable save from the resulting spot kick. Nenagh put a final nail in the coffin in the dying minutes with a fifth goal from Brian Quinn to put undue gloss on the score board as Rearcross were left to rue missed chances, sloppy defending and a lack of fitness.
