Rearcross Youths 0 - Holycross 4

Holycross were the visitors to Rearcross FC Grounds on Saturday for this start of season Youths League fixture against the home side and were four nil winners on the day. The opening exchanges were lively with Marc Murphy firing on target for the home side in the tenth minute, however Eoghan Moloney in goal for Holycross made the save. The visitors went on to create the better chances in the opening half with TJ Medley and Joe Coulson coming close in the 13th and 15th minute respectively. Marc Murphy side netted from an acute angle on the twenty minute mark and then a TJ Medley shot was inches wide of the Rearcross upright seconds later. Rearcross custodian Brendan Shanahan had a fine outing throughout and raced of his line to collect on the edge of the box on 22 minutes. Joe Coulson floated a dangerous delivery into Rearcross territory on the half hour mark, however Sean Hickey and Colm Nolan combined to avert the danger. Rearcross had claims for a penalty waved on seven minutes before the break when James Deegan's well struck effort appeared to have been blocked down by a Holycross defender's hand all be it accidently. Holycross edged in front in the 40th minute when Joe Coulson's long range free kick went all the way to the roof of the net. Rearcross counter attacked and might have equalised within the minute as Sean Hickey's snapshot effort from close range was just over. Rearcross played with wind advantage in the second half were rocked seven minutes in to the half when Joe Coulson netted his second of the outing after sending a low drive to the bottom left hand corner. Holycross were on a roll after this and Matthew Dean's strike was just outside the post two minutes later. The visitors increased their lead to three with seventeen minutes to go when a low delivery from the right was headed home by Matthew Dean. The advantage was increased to four in the 83rd minute when Matthew Dean grabbed his second of the day with a well struck shot from in front of goal. Rearcross didn't throw in the towel despite the deficit and Tommy Kennedy's long range drive was goal bound, however an impressive Eoghan Moloney did well to tap on to the cross bar. The last chance of the game fell to Rearcross when Shane Kennedy squared to James Deegan, however the Holycross custodian narrowed the angle and made the save. Rearcross played well throughout despite the score line with the younger players turning in fine displays, Rearcross will build on this performance with more players to join the panel during the coming week.
