Moneygall 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 2

Rearcross recovered well from last weeks defeat to record a fine victory in Moneygall last Sunday afternoon. Despite missing a number of regulars, Rearcross got off to the best possible start when Sean Mullins was on hand to capitalise on a goal keeping error 7 minutes into the game. Rearcross were well on top after this and were unlucky not to go further ahead, creating a number of chances through Liam Ryan and Sean Mullins. To their credit, Moneygall grew into the game and had the visitors on the back foot in the later stages of the opening half. Seanie Sheehy was called upon to make a fine stop with 10 minutes remaining after the Moneygall winger was allowed too much space at the edge of the area. Moneygall forced a number of corners in succession however, Rearcross defended stoutly to ensure that they remained in front at the break.

This run of play continued into the second half with Rearcross under increasing pressure. Again, Seanie was called upon more than once to make a vital intervention and Simon Kennedy was forced to clear off the line. Rearcross were let off the hook 15 minutes in when a fine effort from 20 yards rattled the cross bar when Seanie rooted to the spot. Moneygall get a deserved equaliser midway through the half when a corner was headed home at the near post. The game was there for the taking by either team at this point and a tired Rearcross team seemed to get a second wind. Rearcross got the all important second goal with 10 minutes remaining when a long ball out of defence by Tommy Ryan (Luke) was collected by Liam Ryan. The Garavane man had little support and ran straight at the Moneygall rearguard before releasing a superb shot from the corner of the box into the far side netting to give Rearcross the lead once more. Moneygall threw everything they had at the visitors however could not break down a hardworking and resolute team and eventually the final whistle sounded to record an excellent and hard fought victory for Rearcross.
