Rearcross Youths 0 - Clodiagh Rangers 6

Rearcross Youths were at home to Clodiagh Rangers Youths in the league last Saturday and lost out on a six nil score line to the league leaders. The visitors made a blistering start and hit the home side for three inside the opening six minutes. The opener came in the 2nd minute when Paul Shanahan raided down the left before sending a speculative delivery across the danger area that finished in the net. Rearcross were dealt a further blow two minutes later when Ailbe O'Donoghue took full advantage with a well finished goal. The green and whites were left reeling and conceded a third on six minutes when Ailbe O'Donoghue bagged his second of the outing. The home side settled after this nightmare start and strung some good pass movements together and came closest with a Pat Stapleton effort. A rampant Drombane side notched up goal number 4 with just fourteen minutes gone in the tie when Tommy Stevens drove past Rearcross custodian Brendan Shanahan. Rearcross kept plugging and Greg Kennedy's header from a Colm Nolan free kick wasn't far away midway through the half. Clodiagh Rangers made it five nil with seventeen minutes remaining in the half when Ailbe O'Donogue completed his hat-trick with a well taken goal. Tommy Kennedy was unlucky not to pull a goal back for Rearcross on 28 minutes when Pat Stapleton produced the trickery on the right, however the Clodiagh net minder was well positioned and got behind the well struck shot to save cleanly. Rearcross custodian Brendan Shanahan turned in a faultless display throughout despite the score line and made a fine save minutes in to the second half. The home side's performance improved considerably in the second half and Greg Kennedy was luckless not to open the Rearcross account with a good strike. Brendan Shanahan was in the action again on the hour mark with a smart save at the near post. It was proving not to be for the home side when Pat Stapleton's cracking effort crashed off the cross bar in the 65th minute. Kevin Ryan increased the Clodiagh tally to six on 68 minutes, however credit to a Rearcross side that didn't throw in the towel and Michéal Murphy's effort from distance was grasped under the crossbar by Gerard Grant ten minutes from time. Rearcross will regroup after this defeat and prepare accordingly for the next league fixture.
