Moneygall 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 1

Rearcross FC bowed out of the Munster Junior Cup with a disappointing defeat in Moneygall last Sunday afternoon. Rearcross started off brightly enough and the opening exchanges were evenly shared. However Moneygall went ahead after 15 minutes when they capitalised on a sliced clearance from Sean Sheehy to score the opener through Eoghan Ryan. However, Rearcross reacted well and went close with shots from Paul Murphy and Michael O’Gorman. They deservedly drew level on the half hour mark when Eamonn Gleeson was played by Diarmuid Sheehy. The Shanacloon man did well to turn his marker and applied a superb finish in to the far corner to level the sides. However, parity was short lived. A short free kick was awarded to Moneygall at the edge of the area. And the resultant cross shot from Eoghan Ryan deceived everyone to find the net. Rearcross were dealt a further blow 5 minutes before the break when Moneygall were awarded a penalty. The spot kick was dispatched without fuss by Billy Hayes to leave the visitors 2 down at the break. The second half was a tight affair. Rearcross best chance came after 10 minutes as Eamonn Gleeson turned his marker inside out before releasing a well struck shot however the Moneygall got down well to make the save. Rearcross fell further behind midway through the half when a dangerous cross from the hosts resulted in the concession of an own goal. Rearcross almost pulled a goal back when Paul Murphy was inches away from an Eamonn Gleeson and even the slightest connection would have been sufficient to see the ball in the net. The closing stages were quiet enough and it was Moneygall who came nearest to scoring as a deflected shot hit the top of the crossbar before being cleared to safety. And so Rearcross were knocked out of the cup and were left to concentrate on their domestic ambitions.
