Nenagh Celtic 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 0

‘That’s what learning is, after all; not whether we lose the game, but how we lose and how we’ve changed because of it and what we take away from it that we never had before… Losing, in a curious way, is winning’ – Richard Bach.

Rearcross travelled to play league champions Nenagh Celtic on Sunday last and came away with a less than satisfying result, and plenty to work on, losing the game by four goals to nil in the finish. The game began frantically as a depleted Rearcross XI tried to adjust to a number of personnel and positional changes from the previous week, however the away side settled after the opening quarter and slowly edged themselves into the game creating a number of half chances in the meantime. Nenagh Celtic opened the scoring on the twentieth minute mark however, a smart finish by Jimmy Hynes from six yards out after neat play down the left wing. Rearcross regrouped after this and were unlucky not to be level after creating a number of opportunities, a Greg Kennedy header and a Davy O’ Toole strike both destined for the net only for Eddie D’arcy to thwart their efforts. Two minutes before half time it looked as though a breakthrough for the away side may have manifested as the pressure increased, a lightning counter attack from Celtic found the Rearcross defence on the back foot moments later however and Brian Quinn somehow found himself one on one with Sean Sheehy - the Rearcross shot stopper coming out second best on this occasion for once. With the score two nil at half time Rearcross knew they had a battle on their hands in the second half, alas the Rearcross soldiers came back out short of armour and ideas on this occasion. Nenagh Celtic went on to dominate proceedings for the remainder of the game and scored two more goals, both from the boot of Brian Quinn who secured his hat trick in the process. Rearcross play host to Borrisoleigh under lights next Saturday in what may be a pivotal game in the overall context of the season.
