Thurles Town 4 - Rearcross 'A' 4

Rearcross travelled to struggling Thurles Town on Sunday last hoping to rediscover winning ways but had to settle for a point after a most bizarre affair. Rearcross took the lead midway through the first half when a Derek O’ Toole corner kick was headed superbly to the back of the net by Liam Ryan (R) and followed this with two more goals from the boot of the aforementioned O’ Toole; Eamon Gleeson and Liam O’ Toole the providers. Three nil and seemingly cruising, Thurles pulled a goal back through Robbie Jordan just before the half time break and suddenly it was the home side who were on top. Even though the tide remained with Town it was the away side who secured the next goal, Derek O’ Toole completing his hat trick from the penalty spot after being hacked down by the home side’s goalkeeper when through on goal. The three goal cushion which Rearcross enjoyed was somewhat unmerited and ultimately short lived as the home side took over in the final quarter of the game and scored three goals without reply to earn a deserved draw. Stevie Grehan scored twice while Morgan Lanigan also got on the score sheet for the home side..

Rearcross found themselves shaking their heads in disbelief at the final whistle and should need no motivation to better themselves for the upcoming six pointer against Moneygall next Saturday night. On a more positive note, no less than five of the O’ Toole brothers were on the pitch at the same time last Sunday for Rearcross 'A', surely surpassing many records in the history books of both the club and indeed the NTDL itself. Rearcross FC would also like to wish the best of luck to Rearcross 'A' captain Robert Harrington who last week emigrated to Australia, and to left back Tommy Ryan (L) who leaves the country this week to uproot to China.
