Rearcross Youths 7 - Clonmore Youths 0

Rearcross Youths fielding an almost full complement of players for the first time this season recored a comprehensive victory against Clonmore at Rearcross FC Grounds last Saturday evening. The home side made a flying start and hit the front in the 5th minute when Shane Lenihan picked out Sean Hickey on the edge of the six yard box who in turn slid the ball across the goal line where Pat Stapleton finished to the net. It was two nil a minute later after Shane Fahy squared to Sean Reynolds who fired an equisite first time shot to the top corner. Rearcross continued to press and it was a case of unlucky thirteen for James Deegan when his long range free kick clipped the cross bar with thirteen minutes gone. James Healy fired on target five minutes later, however Clonmore's John O'Meara made a good block. Clonmore also had their chances and weren't far away with efforts from John Ryan and Matt Meehan, however Rearcross possessed the fire power on the day and went three nil ahead when a Shane Lenihan assist saw Shane Fahy knock the ball inside the post from close range with nineteen minutes remaining in the half. The visitors had claims for a penalty turned down a minute later when a Clonmore player hit the deck inside the box. Shane Fahy grabbed his second of the day in the 28th minute with a fine individual finish from an acute angle.

The Clonmore custodian who couldn't be faulted throughout produced a smashing save from Shane Lenihan, however there was little the keeper could do six minutes before the break when a flowing move out on the left involving James Healy and Shane Lenihan saw Pat Stapleton send a superb low effort to the corner of the net. Pat Stapleton completed his hat-trick a minute later with another cracking finish. Rearcross introduced all three subs at the half time break and Dave Carroll was robbed three minutes after the restart when Sean Hickey crossed to Dave Carroll with the resulting pile driver just inches over the bar. William Mackey copper fastened the win for Rearcross with a precise finish after doing very well to put the ball under and advancing keeper. Rearcross will build on their first win of the season with four league games remaining and also an away first round Cup game against Ardcroney.
