Clonmore 1 - Rearcross Youths 1

Rearcross Youths were on their travels last Saturday for this end of season league game against Clonmore and took a share of the spoils on a one all score line with two second half penalties making up the tally on the day. Rearcross made the livilier start and a Shane Lenihan free kick was met by James O'Connor in the 5th minute, however Stuart Gallaghar in the Clonmore goal made the save. Micheál Murphy fired on target for the visitors seconds later, however the Clonmore net minder was again positioned to make the block. The home side threatened in the seventh minute, however Brian McGrath's effort dragged outside the post. A mazy run by Pat Stapleton down the right flank on 19 minutes produced a fine cross to Micheál Murphy who was unlucky not to make better contact. James Deegan's quickly taken free kick released Shane Lenihan who swung in a menancing delivery, however the chance went abegging at the back post. Rearcross were enjoying more than their fair share of possession, Jame Deegan's corner kick was met by Greg Kennedy whose firm header wasn't far away on the half hour mark. Clonmore upped the ante towards the end of the half, Dave Carroll came to the rescue two minutes later after advancing off his line before parrying to safety. Rearcross were caught napping four minutes later when a ball broke through the middle to Matt Meehan who let fly, however Dave Carroll's positioning was perfect to cut out the danger..
Rearcross made the early running in the second half and Pat Stapleon did well to get a shot in two minutes after the restart, however the effort drifted over the crossbar. The visitors continued to press and Shane Fahy's low drive was goalbound midway through the half, however the ball was shielded to safety by the Clonmore centre half. Pat Stapleton was a threat throughout and lobbed over minutes later, Rearcross hit the front fifteen minutes from time when Greg Kennedy was nudged inside the box, Shane Lenihan stepped up to bury from the spot. Clonmore didn't throw in the towel though and got back on par in the 86th minute when John Ryan scored from the spot despite the best efforts of Dave Carroll. The green & whites were rattled after this and had to come through a few shaky moments before the final whistle sounded to ensure the spoils were divided on the day.
