Rearcross 'A' 1 - Borroway Rovers 3

Rearcross A found themselves slightly out of focus in their first game of the season as they bowed out of the shield to newly promoted Borroway Rovers. Rearcross were the first to threaten in the sixth minute when a Liam Ryan (R) shot hit the cross bar after a good passing movement down the right. Less than a minute later the away side were in front however, Wayne Keane finishing to the net after getting on the end of a Keith Ely free kick. Rearcross remained in pre season mode despite the setback and found themselves two down five minutes later after another Keith Ely free kick found a Borroway midfielder who headed to the net unchallenged. Rearcross got in to the game after this and pulled a goal back seven minutes later; Simon Kennedy scoring from the spot after Davy O’ Toole was fouled in the box. Derek O’ Toole almost equalised for the home side on the half hour mark with a curling free kick, an effort which was followed a minute later by a Liam Ryan (R) shot which hit the crossbar. Rearcross were dominating affairs by this stage and carried their momentum into the second half when Davy O’ Toole shot just past the post in the fifty sixth minute. In what was becoming a very open game Wayne Keane shot just wide for Borroway on the hour mark which was followed by a Declan O’ Toole effort for the home side minutes later which flew inches over the bar. Rearcross were dealt a sucker punch in the 69th minute when Wayne Keane tucked the ball inside the post to make it 3-1 to the visitors. Rearcross never gave up and Derek O’ Toole came close with a fine header from a Liam Ryan (R) delivery in the 73rd minute. Rearcross kept pressing after this but to no avail and it was up to Jim Caplis between the posts to make two brilliant saves with five minutes remaining to keep the scoreline intact.
