Rearcross 'A' 2 - Moneygall 'A' 2
Rearcross 'A' opened their premier league campaign on Sunday last welcoming Moneygall to Rearcross. Rearcross, under the guidance of new manager Con Barry started on the back foot and were lucky not to concede from a corner when Dwayne Collison narrowly headed wide for Moneygall after 2 minutes. Rearcross came into the game after this and were unlucky not to equalise when Derek O’ Toole found himself at the back post but was unable to finish. The home side did take the lead when Liam Ryan finished to the back of the net after some good work from Declan O’Toole. Moneygall came at Rearcross after this and managed to equalise in the 33rd minute. After a free kick was diverted out for a corner, Rearcross were unable to deal with the resultant corner kick and the ball was finished to the net by Mike Downey who was left with the simplest of finishes. Each side created chances after this but it was the away team who went into the break leading after Dwayne Collison picked out an unmarked Billy Hayes in the box who finished to the back of the net. Rearcross came out a rejuvenated team in the second half and were unlucky not to equalise after Declan O’Toole narrowly headed wide after some good approach play. Rearcross were putting a lot of pressure on the Moneygall rearguard at this stage and were finally rtewarded when Liam Ryan pounced for his second of the day, heading home Derek O’Toole’s in-swinging corner. Jim Caplis was called into action and not for the first time in the game was equal to the challenge when he caught a shot from under the crossbar. There was some good defending from the Rearcross defence after this holding the Moneygall attack at bay and this was how the match finished. A good runout for Rearcross who can take heart from the fact that they came back from a goal down and put in a very strong second half performance.
