Rearcross 'B' 1 - Shannon Rangers 1

A new look Rearcross B team started their season with a home game to Shannon Rangers last Sunday. Rearcross started the brighter of the two teams and had two good scoring opportunities in the first ten minutes from Tom Kennedy and Shane Fahy. After 15 mins and with their only scoring opportunity of the half. Shannon Rangers went 1- nil up after a mix up in the Rearcross box. Almost straight from the subsequent tip off. Rearcross surged up the field and a shot from Tom Kennedy resulted in a good save from the Shannon Rangers keeper. With the resulting corner PJ McLoughlin scored with a powerful header to put the team’s level at 1 goal a piece. For the remainder of the first half Rearcross laid siege to the visitor’s goal and should have gone ahead with a series of strikes from Tom Kennedy, James Deegan and Kieran Devitt. Starting the second half Rearcross continued their domination of the match with good opportunities from Tom Kennedy and Shane Fahy. As the second half proceeded Rearcross piled on the pressure on Shannon Rangers and continued their bombardment of the Rangers defence. Substitute Darragh Kennedy had a great run down the left side of midfield and was unlucky not to finish with a goal for his effort. Another substitute James Nolan hit the crossbar with a rasping shot from 20 yards out. In the final 10 mins, Rea had a great opportunity to win the game when a great run by Kieran Devitt saw him break into the Rangers box and his side pass to Tommy Kennedy was almost goal bound only for the Rangers keeper to get a touch to what seemed a certain goal. At full time the scoreline remained 1-1 with both teams gaining a point for their efforts. Over the course of the 90 minutes Rearcross were the stronger team and evidence of their dominance could be seen in the 15 corners they were awarded throughout the game. With a young panel and a few wise Veterans this squad will get better as the season proceeds.
