Blackcastle 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 0

Rearcross travelled to Templemore last weekend to take on Blackcastle Utd in a league encounter and came away on the wrong side of a 4 0 scoreline. Blackcastle started the brighter and saw an effort from the left strike the upright in the 8th minute. Blackcastle did take the lead a minute later when Stefan Leahy finished off Mel McBride’s cross from the left.  Diramaid Sheehy had a shot in the 16th minute but some brave defending saw the danger averted. Jim Caplis made a good save in the 16th minute to thwart a good move from the home side. Blackcastle did however double their lead in the 29th minute when the Rearcross rearguard failed to deal with a free lick and Sean Guerins was left free at the back post with the simplest of finishes to the net and so the score stayed at half time.

Rearcross came out with a renewed vigour in the 2nd half and came close when a Declan O’Toole shot from the right struck the crossbar and went wide. A double save from Jim Caplis kept the away side in the game. Pat Stapleton came close for Rearcross in the 61st minute but was unlucky to see his shot drag wide. The same man was in action again in the 65th minute but the Blackcastle custodian was well positioned to make the save. Rearcross came close again when good work from Pat Stapleton saw Brian Sheehy one on one with the keeper but the Blackcastle goalkeeper come to the rescue again. Mel McBride made sure of the 3 points for the home side when he finished well from inside the box in the 80th minute. Blackcastle finished off the scoring in the 88th minute when Johnny Martin scored a good goal from outside the box.
