Rearcross 'A' 0 - Thurles Town 8

Rearcross went under to a strong Thurles Town selection on an eight goals to nil score line in this floodlit encounter at the Rearcrosss venue last Saturday night. The home side put it up to the table toppers in the opening half, but still ended up trailing by two goals to nil at the midway stage. Thurles Town opened their account on twelve minutes when Tom Dorney finished with aplomb, Rearcross responded minutes later as Paul Murphy's free kick effort that was on target but held by the Thurles netminder. Rearcross gifted the visitors with a second in the 24th minute after squandering possession on the edge of the box and it was Tom Brophy who took full advantage before slotting past a faultless Jim Caplis. Rearcross enjoyed a period of dominance towards the end of the half and a good delivery from Derek O'Toole out on the right found Simon Kennedy at the back post with the headed effort not so far away. Rearcross were denied deep in to injury time at the end of the half when Paul Murphy broke on the right, the right footed effort was on target, however the Thurles custodian got down well to save at the near post. Rearcross made a promising start to the second half, Greg Kennedy pushed down the left flank before swinging in to Derek O'Toole whose headed effort wasn't far over. Thurles Town took over after this in what will be a 45 minutes best forgotten by a home side that conceded six on the trot. Ace marksman Robbie Jordan helped himself to a hat-trick of goals in a ten minute spell the first coming in the 54th minute to make it five nil for the visitors. The Thurles side also used their subs to good effect as Tom Kirby came off the bench to rattle the Rearcross net. Eoin Dorney put another thorn in the side of his ancestoral home with a seventh and then Tom Kirby wrapped it up for Thurles Town eight minutes from the end to cap off a miserable outing for a home side

Bon Voyage to Jim Caplis who is heading to Australia and we look forward to having Jim back in the Rearcross colours at some stage in the future.
