Rearcross 'A' 2 - Sallypark 'A' 3
Rearcross 'A' recoverd a two goal defict in this league tie against Sallypark 'A' last Sunday at Rearcross FC Grounds but were unlucky to eventually lose on a 3-2 score line. The game was well contested throughout with Rearcross seizing the first opportunity after eight minutes when Simon Kennedy's first time volleyed effort dragged wide of the target. Diarmuid Sheehy's tackle a minute later was well timed to break up a promising Sallypark attack. Michéal Ryan crossed to Liam O'Toole on the fourteen minute mark, however Sallypark got back to clear off the line. A seven minute spell then produced four goals, Brian Freeman edged Sallypark ahead in the 15th minute, Joe Shanahan made it two nil after sending the ball inside the post from the edge of the box four minutes later. Rearcross reduced the deficit on nineteen minutes when Paul Murphy blasted to the roof of the net from in front of goal. Michael O’Gorman got a second for Rearcross in the 22nd minute after driving to the corner of the net from just inside the box. Paul Murphy came close again for Rearcross nine minutes before the break and then Joey Nolan saved to keep the sides level at the break. Rearcross had claims for a penalty turned down six minutes in to the second half after Michael O'Gorman did well on the left before a questionable tackle inside the box. It was proving to be a difficult outing for the Rea lads when Simon Kennedy finished on the deck inside the box in the 66th minute, however play was waved on. The home side were dealt a succour blow eleven minutes from time when Padraig Ryan latched on to a right sided cross to head home from the edge of the six yard box. Rearcross pushed forward in search of the equaliser but were luckless when Paul Murphy's attempt from a corner kick wasn't far away and then the home side were denied deep in to stoppage time when Tommy Ryan's headed effort from a Diarmuid Sheehy free kick drifted over the crossbar.
