Cloughjordan 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 0

Rearcross 'A' travelled to Cloughjordan in search of a first league victory and came away empty handed in a game that should have yielded a more fruitful outcome for the green and whites. Rearcross playing against the wind in the opening half made the first incision when Micheal Ryan let fly two minutes in with a well struck effort that wasn't far away. Joey Nolan came to the rescue for the visitors on ten minutes with a fine save when the ball thumped off the Rearcross keeper's knee after narrowing the angle. Cloughjordan hit the front in the 16th minute when Graham Gohery's speculative free kick from outside the box squirmed all the way to the corner of the net. Rearcross were very much in the game at this stage and Declan O'Toole's shot was on target, however the home side's keeper was positioned to save, this was followed with a Paul Murphy shot that was blocked away from the danger area. Rearcross came close again fourteen minutes before the break when Diarmuid Sheehy's long throw ball fell in the danger area, however the ball was somehow scrambled to safety to thwart the opportunity. Rearcross faced the second half with optimism and created the first chance two minutes after the restart when Diarmuid Sheehy was luckless to prod over from in front of goals. Joey Nolan played well throughout and saved cleanly minutes later. Rearcross came close in the 56th minute when Derek O'Toole's free kick from the edge of the box saw Alan Coleman get down to make the save. The visitors were denied again five minutes later when Michéal Ryan was the provider on the right, however the Cloughjordan keeper reacted superbly to make a fine reflex save from Derek O'Toole. Cloughjordan took full advantage and doubled their tally in the 66th minute when Graham Gohery's effort following a free kick riocheted against the inside of the post before nestling in the net. Robert Harrington game to the rescue for Rearcross when the full back cleared off the line. Cloughjordan got in for a third when Alejandro De Quiros sliced between the posts in the 89th minute and then the Cloughjordan number nine got in for his second in the space of a minute following a defensive mix up to give the score line a glossy appearance and a mountain to climb for a Rearcross side that will show character before the campaign is out despite losing a number of key players from last season.
