Borroway Rovers 0 - Rearcross 'A' 2

A rejuvenated Rearcross 'A' team continued their recent good run when they travelled to Loughtagalla Park in Thurles on Sunday last for a league encounter with Borroway Rovers who were sitting third in the league table. It was tit for tat for the first half hour of the game with both sides creating half chances but the defenders of both sides were on their toes to keep the scoreline intact. Borroway got in a good header in the 35th minute which fortunately for Rearcross missed the post narrowly. Rearcross sprung to life after this and started to put the Borroway rearcguard under pressure and were soon rewarded. It came from towering centre back Diarmuid Sheehy's long throw in which was headed on by Derek O'Toole and landed at Liam Ryan's feet. Liam Ryan took a shot which was destined to hit off the post until Declan O'Toole got the slightest nick on it to direct it towards the goal. It was a great time for Rearcross to score as it was just before the break. Rearcross came out fighting again in the second half and doubled their lead after 47 minutes when a long ball played out of the back by Diarmuid Sheehy set Liam Ryan through on goals and the in'form Ryan made no mistake finishing with aplomb to the left hand bottom corner. Borroway started to apply the pressure after this but the Rearcross defenders stood strong and dealt with anything Borroway could throw at them. Rearcross also had their chances after this with Derek O'Toole and Robert Harrington coming close. Borroway almost grabbed a goal in the 85th minute when, there was confusion in the Rearcross box following a corner kick, the ball fell to the feet of a borroway player who got in his shot but Eamonn O'Toole in the Rearcross goals reacted catlike to maker a great block. Rearcross defended sternly after this and came away with a 2 0 victory. This was a great result for Rearcross as very few teams have traveled to Loughtagalla this year and came away with anything, never mind three points. This lifts Rearcross off the bottom and hopefully will lead to the team picking up some points in their remaining league fixtures.
