Sallypark 'A' 3 - Rearcross 'A' 3

Rearcross travelled to Sallypark on Sunday for their third last game of the season knowing that a win was imperative if they were to avoid being relegated this season. Rearcross started brightly and went a goal up in the 8th minute when good work from Greg Kennedy found the onrushing Davy O'Toole in the box who finished with aplomb from a tight angle. Rearcross were well on top at this stage and doubled their advantage in the 20th minujte when the ball broke out to Liam O'Toole after a scramble in the Sallypark box and Liam O'Toole applied a neat finish to the corner of the net. Sallypark came more into the game after this and some good defending from Rearcross ensured that they kept their two goal cushion. Sallypark pulled one back in the 35th minute when the ball was played in from the left and was unluckily finished to the net by the luckless Rearcross defeneder following good work by Niall McCormack. It was 2 - 1 to Rearcross at half time and all to play for.

It was tit for tat in the second half with both sides creating a number of chances but it wasn't until the 80th minute that the game really came to life. Sallypark brought it back to two all when the ball was finished to the net from a corner despite protestations from the Rearcross players that it was a handball. Rearcross didn't drop their heads after this however and stayed plugging away. Rearcross were rewarded for their efforts in the 84th minute when Derek O'Toole found himself one on one with the goalie and coolly rounded the keeper and finsihed to the net despite pressure from the Sallypark centre back. It looked like it was going to be Rearcross's day until the 92nd minute when Rearcross were on the counter attack with 3 players on one when the ball was played to Derek O'Toole who was clearly on side but the referee blew his whistle for offside. Rearcross were incensed with the decision but were even more infuriated a minute later when the resultant free kick was lofted in on top of the Rearcross goals and was unluckily finished to the net by a Rearcross player. The referee blew his whistle a minute later to leave a very dejected Rearcross team at the final whistle. Altohough Rearcross look likely for the drop they still have a lot to play for as they are still remaining in the Tipperary Cup and the Premier Cup.
