Rearcross 'A' 0 - Nenagh AFC 'B' 2

Rearcross welcomed Division 1 champions Nenagh AFC ‘B’ to Rearcross on Sunday morning last and ended up coming out on the wrong end ofa 2 0 scoreline. Rearcross started well and came close on 10 minutes when some good approach play saw Derek O'Toole come close with an effort from inside the box which drifted wide. Nenagh came into the game after this and went close on two occasions in quick succession with Shane O'Gorman and then Alan Kelly coming close with two good efforts. Rearcross came close in the 30th minute when good work from Robert Harrington on the left saw Davy O'Toole being released in the box but the keeper reacted quickly to come out and smother the ball. Nenagh came close again in the 38th minute when Gary Kevin side footed over the bar form close in after he had latched onto a Ger O'Brien cross. Eamonn O' Toole was called into action for Rearcross a minute later when he produced a fine save when the ball broke to an attacker following a corner kick. The first half was an evenly contested 45 minutes of football and the teams entered half time scoreless. Nenagh came out sharp in the 2nd half and came close in the 49th minute only to be denied by some excellent defending by Tommy Ryan who got back to clear off the line when a goal looked certain. The action swung down the other end in the 57th minute when Derek O'Toole played the ball to Greg Kennedy who was unlucky to see his first time effort whizz past the far upright. The game swung in Nenagh's favour when Tommy Mitchell reacted to a Darren Mitchell free to finish the ball to the net from an acute angle. Nenagh doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when Darren Mitchell was allowed space in front of goal and finished with a splendid chip over the helpless Eamonn O'Toole in goals. Rearcross didn't give up though and came close through efforts from Mark Hogan and Diarmuid Sheehy. Rearcross were thrown a lifeline in the 86th minute when a Nenagh defender handled and Rearcross were awarded a penalty. Liam Ryan stepped up and struck the ball confidently but Kevin Coonan in the Nenagh net made a fine save. The match finished 2 0 and Rearcross bowed out of the Tipperary Cup. Rearcross still have 2 league games and a Premier Division Cup quarter final to play so there is still something to play for this season.
