A new look Rearcross FC kicked off their pre season by travelling to take on TS&DL side Cullen/Lattin FC in what proved to be a good workout for both teams. After taking a few minutes to find their feet Rearcross FC settled into the game well after the first quarter and came close on a number of occasions with Derek O’ Toole especially unlucky not to put the ball past the home team’s goalkeeper on the 20th minute mark. Rearcross were upping the ante on their opponents at this point and Derek O’ Toole again came close five minutes later when a through ball sent him one on one with the home side’s ‘keeper who on this occasion stood firm and parried the shot to safety. Cullen/Lattin did have their chances however and could have gone ahead on the 33rd minute mark if not for some clever goalkeeping by Eamon O’ Toole. Rearcross FC finished the half strongly with Liam O’ Toole hitting the crossbar and both Eamon Wade and Matthew Ryan (L) coming close after a goalmouth scramble following a corner kick. Cullen/Lattin FC started the second half sprightly and forced newly introduced substitute Jim Caplis into a magnificent save five minutes into the restart. It was tit for tat for the remainder of the half with Rearcross FC finding it difficult to break through a stubborn home defence and, although both Derek O’ Toole and Kieran Devitt almost snatched a goal for the away side in the last quarter, it simply was not to be. In saying this, Rearcross FC can be very happy with their first outing of the pre season with commitment, spirit and pride in the jersey clearly evident from the first minute to the last in all players. Best wishes to Eamonn Devitt and Simon Kennedy who have been appointed as the management team for the coming season, and to Liam O’ Toole and Eamonn Wade who have been respectively selected as captain and vice captain.
