Rearcross 2 - BT Harps 'B' 1

A gentle breeze blowing in the right direction is better than a pair of strong oars
- Canary Island proverb

Rearcross FC’s season continued blowing in the right direction on Friday last when they overcame a lively BT Harps B outfit in a game played under lights at Rearcross FC grounds. After securing three good victories on the bounce the home side came into this game as lively as crickets and almost took the lead after two minutes when Simon Kennedy’s header from six yards out came smashing off the crossbar after a decent delivery from the right. Rearcross continued to dominate affairs for the next twenty minutes and eventually found the net in the twenty third minute when a superb Robert Harrington corner kick found Eamon Wade who finished to the net from close quarters for the second time in successive games. BT Harps upped the ante after this and began to keep possession around the left side of the pitch where they launched a number of attacks on the Rearcross rearguard, with Eamonn Devitt and Jim Caplis coming to the fore on several occasions to keep out the visitors. Robert Harrington then came up the other end on the half hour mark and blazed over the bar in what was a good attempt yet all the action was happening down at the other end and it took Jim Caplis to save the day with a brave save at the feet of a BT Harps player with five minutes left in the first half. Rearcross regrouped at half time and an even twenty minutes or so played out before Matthew Ryan (L), on as a sub after just returning from injury, curled a fantastic shot to the roof of the net from 18 yards out after good work by Declan O’ Toole on the wing. Rearcross failed to keep the tempo up after this however and Harps began to dominate once more - a goal with ten minutes remaining on the clock just rewards for all the Templemore side’s endeavour. Now only a goal up with not much time left, Rearcross dug deep with some good defending on display and some heroic goalkeeping by man of the match Jim Caplis who saved a penalty with three minutes remaining on the clock much to the delight of Rearcross FC players and supporters alike. Though not overly impressive in their play Rearcross will be happy with this hard fought win over good opposition and look forward to visiting last year’s league champions Nenagh Town B next Sunday.
