Lough Derg Youths 2 - Rearcross Youths 1

Rearcross travelled to Lough Derg looking to build on their win against Ballymackey. The visitors were first to go close with Evan Gleeson forcing a good save from the home teams keeper. Lough Derg had a chance just after 10 mins after confusion in the Rearcross defence but Rea managed to clear the ball. The teams were very even for the first 20 minutes with few chances at either end. On the 20 minute mark Evan Gleeson won a free for Rea but unfortunately it didn’t have the desired effect, with Lough Derg clearing the delivery from Gary O Brian, the lakesiders broke down the field and after some great work on the wing the ball arrived in the Rearcross box causing confusion after a scramble the ball eventually ended up in the net through Thomas Conway. Rearcross battled back after this set back with Dylan Ryan going close after 25 minutes, Patrick Carey also had a volley which was unlucky not to end up in the net. Rearcross could have been further behind just after the half time mark with Seamus Monaghan forcing a good save from Darragh RyanLuke. There was a moment of controversy in the Lough Derg box when a Dylan Ryan corner caused the home team a lot confusion and the ball seemed to just have cross the line but no goal was given. Unfortunately for Rea Lough Derg pressed on and Seamus Monaghna made it 2-0 with a great left footed finish. This seemed to have shattered the visitors hopes of getting anything from the game but Rea showed great character and on the 65 minute won a corner which broke to Evan Gleeson who riffled the ball into the roof of the net. Rea had one more chance near the end when Dylan Ryan’s shot only needed the slightest touch to go in but unfortunately it just went narrowly wide. Lough Derg held on for the victory. Rearcross showed glimpses of what their capable of and will need to bounce back in the next game.
