Lough Derg Youths 3 - Rearcross Youths 1

Lough Derg Youths were at home to Rearcross Youths and booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Rearcross Youths. Rearcross had a bright opening with Darragh Kennedy having a goal disallowed for off side after 5 mins. Evan Gleeson went close next with a shot which was just over. Unfortunately for the away side this was as good as it was to get as the Ballina / Killaloe got in front when Jamie Stuart’s long ball over the top was taken down by Marco Federico who slotted home on the fifteen minute mark. It was two nil to the hosts when good approach play involving Seamus Monaghan and Marco Federico saw the latter finish to the net after walking through the Rearcross backline. Rearcross never played never what they are capable and were left with an uphill battle when Jamie Stuart converted from the spot after Marco Federico was fouled by the visiting custodian. Things went from bad to worse when Darragh Kennedy was sent off after a needless tackle. The only positive for Rearcross came when Patrick Carey who snatched a late consolation goal for Rearcross with ten minutes remaining. An overall very disappointing performance from the Rea Boys and they will hope to overturn this performance when the meet the lakesiders later in the league. Also congratulations to Matthew Connolly on making his debut in the Rearcross colours.

Rearcross Youths: Patrick Coffey, Martin Nolan, Brian Carey, Paul Ryan, Shane Quigley, Thomas Lyons, Kevin Connolly, Darragh Kennedy Evan Gleeson, Gary McMahon, Patrick Carey.
