Rearcross 'A' 1 - Moneygall 0

'Remember all things are possible for those who believe' - Gail Devers

Rearcross kept their dream of Premier Division safety alive when they toppled a plucky Moneygall side in a match played at Rearcross FC Grounds on Friday night last. Moneygall began the game well and had claims for a penalty for handball which went unheard when Joe Cahalan’s put in from the left was eventually cleared inside the box. Mark Hogan’s free kick a minute later at the other end was parried by Mark Moroney at the expense of a corner, proving that this game was going to be nip and tuck throughout. Rearcross took a deserved lead in the 21st minute when Robert Harrington’s inswinging corner kick went all the way to the net, but were not left off the hook easily as Brian Quinlan came close minutes later with a shot that was gathered cleanly by Sean Sheehy. Simon Kennedy then had a pop shot in the 39th minute which was held by the Moneygall custodian, followed by a Tony O' Connor flick which just went wide of the post three minutes later for the visitors. Declan O' Toole then combined with Liam Ryan just before the break with Rearcross unlucky not to extend their lead. With just over ten minutes gone in the second half good play from the hosts saw the ball swung in from the left, however Mark Hogan’s headed effort pulled right of the upright. Sean Sheehy was having a busy night up at the other end and once again made a great save in the 58th minute to protect the home side's frail looking lead. In the 60th minute Evan Gleeson made an immediate impact when introduced and showed great skill on the by line before putting the ball across the danger area but the chance went a begging. Gleeson then broke on the right before sending a rocket of a shot against the crossbar five minutes later before showing electric pace in the 71st minute when he charged through the centre before being nudged off the ball when a goal looked on the cards. A close finish to the game saw Moneygall applying their fair share of pressure, however Sean Sheehy was to the fore for the Rea boys with some fine goalkeeping to leave Rearcross narrow one nil winners at the full time whistle. Rearcross now have two games to save their season with games against BT Harps and Nenagh Celtic approaching. Best of luck to Diarmuid Sheehy and the Limerick U-21 Footballers against Cork next Wednesday night
