BT Harps 'A' 2 - Rearcross 'A' 2

Rearcross kept their hopes of Premier Division safety alive with a deserved share of the spoils against a spirited BT Harps in a game played at the Templemore venue on Sunday last. Sean Sheehy was first in the action for Rearcross with a superb save at the expense of a corner kick, followed closely by a Declan O’ Toole shot from distance which was just over the top. A defensive error in the 34th minute let Jack Moore in for the opening goal for Harps, a tally which was doubled less than a minute later when Christy Moore finished from close range. A Robert Harrington free kick was met by Kieran Devitt in the 45th minute, however the headed effort drifted away from the target as Rearcross plotted a way to get back in the tie. Showing their ‘ná géill go deo’ attitude, Rearcross came out all guns blazing in the second half on a mission to save their season. It began in the 59th minute when a good move initiated by Diarmuid Sheehy saw the ball put out at the expense of a corner kick. Four minutes later, and Rearcross playing with far more fluency, a beautiful flowing move involving Liam Ryan and Evan Gleeson saw Simon Kennedy’s low drive just wide. Kennedy was then involved again in the 66th minute when he was bundled of the ball just outside the box with brother Greg stepping up to send a blistering effort to the back of the net from the resulting free kick. With fifteen minutes remaining and Rearcross in control of proceedings, a Derek O’ Toole corner kick landed in the danger area where Greg Kennedy jumped highest to head past a faultless Cathal Leahy, a second goal on the day for the lethal left back. With the game hanging in the balance BT almost caught the away side on the hop, with Sean Sheehy having to produce a superb reflex save to turn the ball away with a deft touch of the boot. Chances fell to both sides in the final few minutes with Rearcross coming closest when Derek O’Toole’s headed effort from a Liam Ryan delivery went just wide of the post. Rearcross now face Nenagh Celtic in their final league game in a ‘do or die’ game for the boys in green and white.
