Streamstown Celtic 3 'B' - Rearcross 'B' 2

The long journey to Streamstown at the far side of Roscrea was the fixture for Rearcross B to fulfil in a period of continued late summer sunshine this September day. Arriving with depleted squad numbers Rearcross 'B' managed to field a core 11 with the experienced Jim Caplis in reserve. It was in the early period of adapting to difficult conditions that Rearcross fell behind to an early Streamstown goal. The first half was evenly matched with Rearcross failing to grab a goal back with the best efforts coming from two free kicks and a William Mackey effort that rebounded off the crossbar. A second Streamstown goal late in the first half resulted from a slow Rearcross reaction to a short free kick, which produced a low cross that the Rearcross rearguard failed to deal with. At the Half- time break Rearcross found themselves in a rather familiar scenario of late with being two goals down. And, also through to recent form Rearcross re-emerged in the second half with a clearer mission in mind. This re-enlightened effort was eventually rewarded with PJ McLoughlin scoring from a spell of fluid football across the midfield, all combining well in the build up. With the task of finding an equaliser counter attacks minute by Streamstown also bothered the advancing Rearcross defence. It was in this period of pressure that Rearcross conceded a penalty, which the Streamstown taker nearly despatched despite the best efforts of Jim Caplis in goal who was now in command of goalkeeping duties. Rearcross continued with all-out attacks and this plan bore fruit in the final minute when Liam Nolan wittingly out jumped the Streamstown defence to direct his effort into the top left corner of the Streamstown net. The game finished Sreamstown B 3, Rearcross B 2.
