Rearcross 'B' 2 - Templetuohy 1

Rearcross B were more than happy to get a home game after a number of away fixtures had tested the resolve of many core team members. The recent away form hadn’t secured any points, despite some spirited displays on the road by under strength teams. The Templetuohy B team were in a similar vein of form and they were also attempting to salvage some badly needed league points from their visit to Rearcross. Templetuohy were first off the mark in the 5th minute when Shane Ryan capitalised when an early opportunity presented itself to him as Rearcross failed to clear an early corner kick. Rearcross quickly counteracted and had three quick chances in the following 5 minutes. The Rearcross midfield quickly began to impose on the game as Pj Mcloughlin and Kieran Devitt surged forward with greater urgency. Both Rearcross full backs were getting stronger into the game and helped launch a series of attacks from either wing. Up front Sean Harte was proving a handful for the Templetuohy rearguard and he was rewarded for his dogged determination after half an hour when he scored after a good string of play from the home team. The second half saw no let up in the fast pace of the game. Both teams pressed on in search of another goal to break the balance. Rearcross for their part offered up the best attempts on goal and when repeated chances weren’t being converted it began to look as if a stalemate was on the cards. Both keepers were in sparkling form with the Templetuohy keeper by far being the busier of the two. However the match outcome changed after a series of late attacks upon the Templetuohy goalmouth when Joey Nolan’s resilience paid off when he produced the winning goal in the 87th minute. It was a goal that shattered the visitor’s hearts. The goal coming as the Templetuohy keeper finally succumbed to the pressure in being unable keep out the strong low driven shot from 15 yards. An elated and relieved Rearcross B wrapped up the match to take all three points. Alas, with a few too many injured bodies from this Thursday night encounter under lights. The final score was Rearcross B 2, Templetuohy B 1.
