Rearcross 'B' 3 - Ballymackey 'B' 1

For the second week in succession Rearcross B had the privilege of playing at home. This time the visitors to Rearcross were the high flying Ballymackey B, a team whose league campaign had commenced with a home victory over Rearcross B, back at the start of the current seasons’ action. Rearcross fielded a strong team again, with another stalwart (Sean Kennedy) returning to bolster the squad. Rearcross commanded the majority of the early exchanges and Tommy Lyons put them in front early in the game with powerful low diagonal strike from the left wing. Ballymackey worked hard for an equaliser and on the 42nd minute Kevin Mounsey’s effort drew the sides’ level. The second half started at a hectic pace with both keepers being brought evermore into the game. Jim Caplis in the Rearcross goal successfully punched clear of his lines, twice in quick succession and at the other end of the pitch Rearcross failed to capitalise on their good movements. In the 68th minute Darren Quigley’s precision cross found Kieran Devitt, who coolly headed Rearcross into the lead once more. With the wind at their backs and a new confidence, Rearcross dug deep into their reserves to stay clear of their rivals. Sean Kennedy’ introduction to the game galvanised any aerial threat posed by Ballymackey. Rearcross continued to counter-attack and this tactic paid off as Joey Nolans’s goal in the 85th minute secured another valuable three points for the hosts. The game finished on a final score of Rearcross B3, Ballymackey B 1
