Rearcross 'A' 5 - Borroway Rovers 1
On the 15th of November Rearcross played host to a Borroway Rovers side who made their way from Thurles Town. It was the Thurles side who made the early inroads and on the 5th minute they had an effort that ended up sailing over the crossbar. Rearcross replied with an effort of their own when Greg Kennedy let fly from outside the box. This effort was matched by the Borroway Rovers custodian who tipped the ball over the bar. Minutes later and it was John Ryans turn to have a pop at goal. His well struck effort went narrowly over the crossbar. Rearcross got the breakthrough on the 14th minute mark. Greg Kennedy nipped in front of a Borroway defender to snatch the ball from a short kick out. Kennedy slipped the ball into the bottom corner of the visitors net. Borroway were not going to let Rearcross have it al their own way and in the 18th minute took their opportunity to equalise. Moments later Seanie Sheehy was called upon to make a great reflex save. Borroway were playing with fluidity at this stage and had another effort trail wide shortly after. Rearcross weathered this period of play and ended the first half with a series of chances. A long range free kick was floated into the danger area by John Ryan. Mark Hogan had a go at turning the ball toward the net but his effort was blocked. Declan O Toole picked up the rebound but couldn’t steer his effort under the crossbar. In the next attack Rearcross managed to convert. John Ryan swung in another free kick which was headed in by Mark Hogan who managed to wiggle into some space and plant a firm head on the ball. Rearcross could have been 3-1 up before the break when Liam Ryan set up Declan O Toole who shot narrowly wide on the 41 minute mark. Borroway were letting Rearcross know that the game was not over by producing a few chances of their own. Most notably a corner kick which ended up being deflected over the bar. The second half started with Rearcross scoring in the first few minutes but play was called back as for an offside infringement, much to the despair of Liam Ryan who had turned the ball into the Borroway net. Liam Ryan was in the thick of the action once more as his cross found Davy O Toole in sight of goal. Davy couldn’t wrap his foot round the ball on this occasion and saw his effort cleared the frame of the goal. Robert Harrington was doing Trojan work in the middle of midfield and in the 56th minute he slid a ball through to Davy O Toole. O Toole could not convert his effort. 60 minutes into the match saw Darragh Kennedy score a fantastic solo goal. An effort from a long way out eluded the Borroway goalie and made for some fantastic viewing for those faithful fans that came to see this encounter. Mark Hogan and Derek O Toole combined well before Derek pulled the ball back to Matt Ryan who had made a darting run from midfield. Ryan was unable to keep his effort down. With ten minutes to go Derek O Toole crossed to Darragh Kennedy whose deflected shot made its way to the net, making it a brace for the lively winger. Minutes later and Matt Ryan found himself on the end of a Davy O Toole cross. Ryans effort was goal bound but for the actions of the Borroway Rovers goalkeeper who saved well. Darragh Kennedy set up Davy O Toole who headed home 5 minutes from time. Borroway Should have scored a few minutes from time but blundered in front of goal to leave the final score 5-1 to the Rea boys.
