Ballywilliam 3 - Rearcross 'B' 2

Rearcross were away to Ballywilliam in this league fixture played at the Birdhill venue on Monday evening and were denied a share of the spoils after conceding in stoppage time. Ballywilliam made the better start and threatened with a free kick which rebounded over on 7 minutes, but took the lead three minutes later when Stephen Murray's effort took a deflection before finishing in the net. The Rearcross Quarries sponsored side picked it up after this with shots from Joey Nolan, PJ McLoughlin and Tom Hickey while at the other end Jim Caplis came to the rescue with some top notch goalkeeping. Rearcross made a strong finish to the half with PJ McLoughlin, Andy Ryan and Joey Nolan all to the fore before a Gary Ryan header was cleared off the line. The Rea boys got off to the worst possible start in the second half when a mix up in the box let David Corrigan in for an opportunist goal. Rearcross dug deep after this and got it back to the minimum after Darren Quigley's menacing corner kick finished in the net. The host side threatened again but Rearcross shot stopper Jim Caplis was equal to the effort. Rearcross kept the foot on the pedal and came close through Gary Ryan and PJ McLoughlin before Gary Ryan unleashed an unstoppable rasper from 20 yards to level it up at two all with fouteen minutes left to play.. Rearcross deserved something from the encounter, but it was not to be when Damien O'Brien finished between the posts in the 91st minute. Rearcross were disappointed not to have taken something from the game, but will take solace from a strong display on the evening.
