Barnane 4 - Rearcross 'B' 3

Rearcross 'B' were the visitors to Killoran Park for this Third Division league tie against Barnane and were luckless to finish on the wrong end of a 4-3 score line. Rearcross might have been out of sight at the midway stage but lady luck was marked absent on the day for the Rearcross Quarries sponsored side. Liam Nolan picked out Matthew Ryan who wasn't far away inside the opening minute and then Liam Nolan took a pop himself two minutes later which was saved. The woodwork came to the rescue for the hosts on seven minutes when Gary Ryan's effort came off the post. Tom Hickey broke the deadlock for Rearcross in the 9th minute with a fine strike to the far corner following good build up play from Gary Ryan and Matthew Ryan Luke. The lead was short-lived however as Barnane got back level when the ball was poked home from close range minutes later. The Slieve Felim side got back on top and threatened with attempts on goal from PJ McLoughlin and Joey Nolan with the Barnane custodian doing well to palm the latter effort over the crossbar. Jim Caplis was in the action with 18 minutes to go in the half with a smart save before PJ McLoughlin cleared. Gary Ryan and Joey Nolan came close again before the break, but it remained deadlocked at the half time whistle. Rearcross restored their advantage two minutes in to the second half when Gary Ryan converted from the spot after PJ McLoughlin was upended inside the area. Barnane upped the ante and forced successive saves out of Jim Caplis but were back level on 65 minutes when the ball finished in the net despite the best effort of the Rearcross custodian. The game was in the melting pot at this stage as Liam Nolan sent Gary Ryan through only for the ball to finish in the side netting. Barnane edged head with fifteen minutes to go thanks to a converted penalty. Worse was to follow for the Thomas Kennedy managed side when a Shane Reynolds clearance was deflected to the net. Rearcross didn’t give up though and got it back to 4-3 after Gary Ryan’s free kick from the edge of the box went all the way to the back of the net. Rearcross pushed hard for a deserved equalizer but it wasn’t to be on this occasion and will now re-group for next weekend’s league fixture against Templetuohy.
